User Manual: Nearby Notifications

Nearby Notifications is a basic feature of the VeeCard loyalty program that helps you reconnect with your customers in real-time. It sends a customized push notification to a client's mobile device when they come within a given proximity of your merchant shop. This is an excellent way to drive foot traffic and remind customers to visit you.

For example, when a client with your loyalty card passes near your store, their phone will automatically display a message like: "Welcome to visit VeeCoffee".

1. Eligibility: Which Cards Can Receive Nearby Notifications?

Nearby Notifications can be applied to all published card designs. If a client has been issued a card that is active and published, they are eligible to receive these location-based notifications.

2. How to Configure Nearby Notifications

You can customize the notification message for different customer segments by applying different strategies to different card types.

  1. Navigate to the main menu and select Business.
  2. Click on Nearby Notifications.
  3. On this page, you will see a list of your existing notification rules. From here, you can:
    • Create a new notification rule for a specific card.
    • Edit an existing notification message.
    • Delete a rule, which will revert that card to using the default notification.

Creating/Editing a Nearby Notification

On the Nearby Notification Edit page, you will need to configure the following details:

  • Notification Message: Enter the text you want to appear on the client's phone screen. Keep it short and inviting (e.g., "Welcome back! Stop by for a coffee," "20% off your next purchase today").
  • Apply to: Select which specific published card designs this notification message applies to.

Note: This setup allows you to define different strategies for different card types. For example, VIP cardholders might receive an exclusive message like "Welcome, VIP member! Enjoy a complimentary pastry today," while standard cardholders receive a general greeting.

Default Notification

If you delete a customized nearby notification from a published card, or if a card type does not have a specific rule assigned, the system will use a default nearby notification:

The issue name of the card.

For example, if your card is named "VeeCoffee Rewards Card," the default notification will simply say: "VeeCoffee Rewards Card."

3. How Nearby Notifications Work

Once configured, the process is fully automated and requires no action from your staff.

  1. Client Proximity: When a client who has your issued card installed in their digital wallet comes within a defined geographical radius of your shop location...
  2. Automatic Trigger: The system detects the proximity and automatically triggers the push notification.
  3. Pop-up on Mobile Screen: The customized (or default) message pops up automatically on the client's mobile phone screen, even if the app is in the background.

4. Important: Client Control (Opt-Out)

It is important to note that we respect the client's privacy and control over their device.

  • Disabling Notifications: Clients have the ability to disable Nearby Notifications for your card directly within their digital wallet settings on their phone.
  • Result: If a client disables this feature, no push notifications will show on their device, even when they come nearby your shop.

We recommend informing your customers about the benefits of this feature during sign-up to encourage them to keep it enabled.
